Craftie.dk was a two-sided marketplace for vendors (boutique creators) to sell homemade creative work to customers in DK. Think Etsy, but a trusted local player with deep embedding in the local popup market scene in DK.
At peak we had 40 creators online, but never hit any meaningful sales volume. Basically the unit economics didn’t add up - not enough available margin to run advertising to scale the business. Hindsight is 2020.
We built everything up around a WordPress core with a key plugin called WC Vendors that let us provide each seller with a login to admin their own products, handle payments and fees, etc.
There was a mix of posters, fabrics, wood, new materials and recycled - all of it made by hand as the common theme.
This was a wonderful first foray into fully functional e-com in a quite complex setup. It was part of building the confidence required for some of the later ventures and roles.
We even made it to content production mode with a blog, before we figured out the margin problems would stop us.
